Chestnut Roasting....Inked In

The picture 'Chestnut Roasting' is coming along well.
Shown here is the inked in stage. All the details were finalised in pencil prior.
When I'm painting scenes like this I look for inspiration from items that surround me. Among them were the millipedes that infest much of my town...so I drew a couple in to show that mice have an infestation problem with them too!
Now it comes to the exciting stage of the process.....making a mess with paint!

Mice Cooking Chestnuts

This new painting I'm working on has close relations to 'Fireside Mice' ....a painting I created a few years ago...
However, I hope to give this latest work more mood....a duskier complexion to accentuate the fire's glow. This means using very muted colours or overlaying brighter colours with glazes of somber browns and greys....

Underwater Billabong....completed!

'Underwater Billabong' is now complete!
It's come together quite differently to how I originally visualised....but it still holds the dappled underwater effect I hoped to achieve.
The bug eyed possum holding the weight to quicken his descent is my favourite character....you get the feeling he didn't think through the limited purposes of a snorkel!
Greeting cards will be available at Creations in a Teapot in the next few days....
The original is also available to purchase.....please contact me directly for further details :)

Boy & Kangaroo

In a moment of Aussie spirit I painted this picture - 'Boy & Kangaroo' (hours of research to create that title!)...
The joey is based on a friend's roo who was sadly taken by a fox when only a few months old..... She is now immortalised on paper...
One thing I noticed with joeys is they loved to be scratched like a dog! They'll stand still for ages enjoying an itch behind the ears or on their front....so this little painting shows that enjoyable pastime...
Greeting cards of this image are available at Creations in a Teapot.
The original is also available for purchase. For more info please email me at gabrielevans@hotmail.com or gabriel@creationinateapot.com.

Underwater Billabong

This new painting I'm working on shows similar characters to the Billabong series - examples here.
This will be an interesting painting to work on as I'll attempt to recreate the effects of broken light on the sea bed..... This could result in success or dramatic failure!
Um...can anyone see the sea monster eyeing up these Aussie characters?

Magazine article on my art

An article on my family and I is included in the first issue of 'South West Investment Property' magazine, brought out by the West Australian Regional Newspapers, today.... I'm very hopeful that I'm classed under the 'investment' area haha.
The article recounts each of my family's artistic endeavours including my art, my two sisters' writing and music, my brother's art, my Mum's writing and my Dad's photography.
If you live in the South West of Aus then definitely check it out....! :)

Mist Rising

This little painting is titled 'Mist Rising'.
Created using large soft brushes that were swiftly moved across the surface resulting in a monochromatic atmosphere.

Morley Library Workshop

Enjoyed running an art workshop through Morley Library a couple of days ago.
Thirty children, aged from 6 - 12, demonstrated their individual talents by drawing monsters and characters with great individual interpretation of the subjects. Monsters in high heels, robot wings, money greedy, swimming, and even handlebar moustaches!
Thanks to Korina - from Morley Library - for the photos below.
